Does your environment work for you?

If you ever have trouble getting started in your day, or working through the daily 'to do' list, consider whether your environment is helping or hindering.

It's a very individual thing - what works for you may not work for someone else - the key is whether or not it works for you!

Physical environment can play a bit part in working effectively.  Personally, I need a window and ideally lots of desk space - because I have a bad habit of covering the desk space very quickly with various piles, one for each job that I'm working on.

I also need green vegetation - either in the office or visible from the window - and the availability of fresh air if at all possible!

However physical environment isn't everything.  Is your team environment effective, are the relationships at work productive and enjoyable, is the communication environment conducive to healthy debate and challenge whilst maintaining a positive outlook and acknowledging each person's contribution?

What part do you play in all of this?  How much is within your control?  What changes can you make to improve the environment in which you work - for your own benefit and for the benefit of others?

If you work on the basis of CANI - Continuous and Never-Ending Improvement - there will be something you can do to make your environment a healthier, happier and more fulfilling place to work and live.
